Moving to Helsinki - Some Questions...

second coming with better attitude?

this clip is essential for understanding life in hellsinki suburban housing estates:

This isn’t Helsinki either, but I bet you’ll get some snow there as well…

Hopefully “in a couple of months” means you’ll make it for the King of Fixed -weekend (15-18.8.), which is kind of like fixed gear finnish championship.

Welcome!

What ever you do, don’t forget in Finland we have this thing called reilu meininki. And please, install at least front brake, or something will penetrate up in the ass of Timo.

I’d rather never ride fixed ever again than fit a front brake! I’ve ridden fixed for 6 years without one and not once have I ever needed one :-/

I’m actually going to be in Tampere from 4-15 August then back to the UK for a shirk before the permanent move to Helsinki so I’ll miss that event, d’oh!

I’m so British I call a front brake a “looney speed reducer.”

There's bike polo tournament Tampere Open on 2.-3. August, you better adjust your schedule a little bit from the both ends.

I’ll be touching down in Helsinki on September 3rd, my bikes should arrive a few days afterwards.

I’m only going to bring one fixed and one geared (for trips into the woods), think I’m going to sell my road bike because from what I can make out I’d have to ride around 500 miles in a line out of Helsinki to climb the same elevation as I’m used to in 8 miles in Swansea, haha.

We’ve got an apartment in Vuosaari, glad I’ll be living next to the sea still because that’s what I’m used to and I’m so excited about the nearby nature parks and the concrete skate park!

What’s the easiest way for me to keep in the loop for meet-ups/rides?

I think this topic might be good. Other than that, we got a calender in the top right corner “tapahtumakalenteri” and texts work too.

We have regular wednesday meet-ups called “Fiksikeskarit”. It’s usually bikes and beers, but sometimes there’s also some short alleycat-style races and other activities. Follow that thread and if the directions or meeting point isn’t familiar just ask!

Tuesdays polo, wednesdays fiksikeskarit, VPCX events usually sundays? Those are the more or less regular ones I can think of.

where are Wednesdays meetings held? it would be nice to meet more cyclists:)

Remember when it comes to the meetings, it’s always up to you if you wanted to do drugs. Nobody forces to.

It's not same place every time, you can ask [here](https://www.yksivaihde.net/old/9) every wednesday, like said some times there is alleycats, bike rides etc. or just beer drinking.

thanks! I keep my eye on it:)

The big move is in 9 days, I was going to bring two bikes but I’ve decided to bring all three following my visit to Helsinki a couple of weeks back. I don’t think my 14R is going to see a hell of a lot of miles on the cobbled roads of the city centre so the All-City Big Block which I was going to leave behind is coming too.

Can’t wait to get over there!

Which day are you arriving? There should be the monthly wednesday alleycat on the third. Big block’s a killer choice for the winter, but i think the 14r can still get in on some action in helsinki this fall.
