It’s not always an ambush, I’ve seen smurffis on top of the escalators as well, checking tickets before you go down. And they raid the metro trains too.
The fine is 80€ so the 40€/20€ per month isn’t really that expensive.
The 30 day fee is 46,50€ (23,30), the longer period you buy at one go, the cheaper it gets (by a fraction).

We got this thing called “vittu, kyl tuol voi ajaa”. A.K.A spiked tyres.

Might not even need studded tyres, depends on the year really.
And riding at winter is a ton of fun.

Just spend the money you would use on tickets/fines on proper winter riding gear.
And once i got checked for ticket 9 times in a.month. You should buy a ticket.

The single tickets are very expensive but if you get the travel card it’s a lot more reasonable. For 90€ a month you can travel within the entire metropolitan area (Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo) and just within Helsinki it’s half of that.
the 2,5€ ticket isn’t just a metro ticket, but allows you to use buses/trams as well for an hour. Regardless, it isn’t a very fair price. Luckily as a student I only pay 0,9€ for a single ticket or 23€ monthly
i think 2,5 euro ticket is fair because you can tyckiting from one side of city to other. i can say when i was in kof2014, i cyclisting to east center very long time, 10 kilometers drunk is long ride home.
but then you can take biek on metro and cycling from station to anywhere. or dont know, i always riding in rain.

I agree that 2,5€ is good if you are travelling from, as an example, Vuosaari to the city centre, but 2,5€ to go only one stop is just plain crazy. The system must surely encourage a lot of people to try their luck and not pay.
