Sanding and painting?

Hi guys!
Again, sorry for english, and hope this is ok place for such a question.
I’m sure some of you were sanding and painting frames for your projects, so:

  • Where do you usually do that?
  • How much do you usually pay for that?
  • Any good places you can recommend? (around JKL, TRE)
  • Other advices appreciated, i have 0 experience within painting.

Just to answer to those general questions for you:

It is quite common that places that do paint jobs also have sandblasting/glassblasting/sodablasting -services. So the easiest way is to find some fella who blasts and paints and does the whole thing in the same place. Usually the price is also bit lower when the work is combined. I’m not familiar with JKL/TRE -services like this but here around JNS you can get the whole shebang for about 50e. Sanding by hand is not worth it (if you are not experienced and want to get the thing done quickly) and also using paint dissolving chemicals is quite irritating in my opinion. So maybe someone else can point you in the right direction with the service.

A couple of years ago I had a frame sandblasted and powder coated by Tamcorro (TRE) for 80€.

Powder coating for frame and fork was 30 euros couple years ago. They don’t offer sandblasting so you need to find other place for that.

For comparison: I just got an offer for protecting, sandblasting and powdercoating a frame at Eleko in Helsinki. They quoted 120 € plus tax (24 %). Will ask elsewhere (Hiekanjyvä), but maybe I should just come to Tampere.

I had my frame sandblasted and powder coated at Kylmäkosken jauhemaalaus Oy (Kylmäkoski powder coating) a couple of years back. Some 40km away from Tampere.
Excellent quality of work and service, along with a nice selection of colors. Price for this was 50€ if I remember right, could’ve been less too. Contact info for the company

You might have sandblasting in “Lempäälän käsi- ja taideteollisuusoppilaitos” for pack of cigarettes. They also have very good painting place.That’s neighbour to Tampere. But schools out for summer.

Ok, Kari from http://jspulverimaalaamo.fi told that it is still about 30 to pait the frame and he can also recommend where to sandblast, so most likely i will meet him and decide then.

out of curiosity, did you ask if they did this "between jobs" with same powder they used for the other assignments or something else?

No, i didn’t. But i have selected color by myself so i don’t know, if they have been making some kind of similar job they might combine, or might not.
